MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY

Myo which means muscle and fascia which means “band” or “bundle” in Latin, surrounds, connects and supports muscles, organs, bones, tendons, ligaments and other structures of the body.

WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY?

Myofascial release is a technique used to restore mobility to restricted structures. This releases tension in the muscles and connective tissue allowing the muscles to work more efficiently and allowing chronic patterns of dysfunction to move more freely.

WHY FASCIA REQUIRES SPECIAL ATTENTION

Many factors in our daily life, including poor postural habits, stress-induced muscular tension, limited movement, injury, trauma, inflammatory responses, surgical procedures and dehydration can cause adhesions to form within the fascia. This causes the muscles to stick together making them stubborn and resulting in restricted movement.

By using pinpointed release techniques, we can help the fascial repair process by freeing up the tissues and increasing the range of motion.

I highly recommend looking at the video on You Tube below. It explains and illustrates what myofascial connective tissue is.  Be warned, it looks a bit ‘gory’ as there is some dissection going on!
